1) Epiphysis : End or tip of bone derived feom 2°ossification centre.4 types of epiphysis
Pressure epiphysis :
- Transmits weight and are articular
- E.g. femoral head, upper end of tibia, lower end of radius
Traction epiphysis :
- Provides attacment to tendons
- E.g. Mastoid process,tubercles of humerus,trochanters of femur
Atavistic epiphysis :
- Phylogenitically independent bone which has attched to other bone in human
- E.g. coracoid process of scapula,os trigonum, posterior tubercle of talus
Aberrant epiphysis :
- Not always present
- E.g. head of 1st metacarpal and base of other metacarpals
2) Diaphysis :
- Strogest part of bone
- Ossify from 1° centre
3) Epiphyseal growth plate :
- Zone of maximal growtg
- Between epiphysis and metaphysis
4) Metaphysis :
- Has hair pin arrangement of vessels
- Zone of infection
- More prone to injury
