Haversian Canal System (Osteon)
- Structural unit of compact cortical bone
- Consist of concentric lamellae(mineralised glycosoamino glycan matrix with embedded osteophytes ) around neurovascular canals
- This neuro vascular canals are called haversian canal
- Haversian canal contains 1 or 2 capillaries, myelinated or unmyelinated axons
- System is arranged along long axis of bone and may be branched, spiral
- Haversian canal system communicate with other systems or with endosteal bone marrow by VOLKMANs Canal which runs obliquely perforating channels
- Reversal line : border around colony beyond which bone resorption is not seen
(Imagine a tribe or colony living in a specific way.for say old Roman colonies having there colonies made in concentric manner.Similarly haversian system is colony or tribe having there colony in concentric manner. This colonies have contact with other colonies by tram lines called volkmans canal through which they get food/nutrition.Architects forming this colonies first make huge wall around there colony known as reversal lines)
