1) Ductus arteriosus
Remnant : ligamentum arteriosum
Physiological/functional closure :
- Immediately after birth
- Due to bradykinin mediated muscle contraction
- Although it closes @ birth in normal full term baby, there is still some leak from aorta to P.artery.
- In 20% cases closes @ end of 1st day,in 80% cases closes @ end of 2nd day ,in 100% closes @ end of 4th day
Anatomical closure
- At 1 to 3 months
- Due to TGF - B mediated proliferation of intima
2) Septum primum and septum secundum
Remnant : SP-fossa ovalis ; SS - annulus ovalis
Functional closure :
- Immediately after birth
- Due to raised LA pressure following 1st breath,SP is pressed over SS
Anatomical closure
- Occurs @ about 1 year
3) Ductus Venosus
Remnant : ligamentum venosum
4) Left Umbilical vein
Remnant : ligamentum teres
