- Spermatogenesis : The process of development of spermatozoa from spermatogonia.
- Spermiogenesis : The process of converting spermatid into spermatozoa by removal of unwanted cytoplasm.It is done by sertoli cells.
- Semen consist of <10%sperms,60%seminal fluid,30%prostatic fluid,10%bulbourethral fluid
- Normally semen contains >100million sperms/ml.50% individuals have upto 50million sperms/ml.When it is <20million/ml individual cant produce baby and is sterile.
- Normal length of spermatozoa is 60-70micrometer
- It takes 64 days for forming sperm.
- Sperms are produced in seminiferous tubules.
- Sperms are stored,matured and gain motility in epididymis.
- Sperms undergoes capacitation(removal of acrosome) in female genital tract.
- Motility is gained due to catsper protein.
- Capacitation helps in piercing zona pellucida of ovum to allow spermatozoa head to enter.
